Gena worked as a model and deputy sheriff

Chuck Norris, best known for Walker, Texas Ranger, died on Thursday at the age of 86.

His family shared the news in a statement on Friday, March 20. “It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,” they wrote. “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”

He is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley, his five children — Dina, Mike, Eric, Dakota, and Danilee — and 13 grandchildren.

After his first marriage to Dianne Holechek ended in 1989, Chuck met Gena in 1997 while he was on a date with someone else. He recounted the story in his 2004 memoir, Against All Odds, writing, “I looked up for the first time and saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.”

“Gena came on the set the next day and played a small part on [Walker, Texas Ranger],” he recalled. “I invited her to dinner that night … I wanted to get to know Gena better, so I asked her to return to Dallas as soon as possible. She came back a couple of weeks later, and our friendship grew into a dating relationship. Before long, I felt myself falling head over heels in love.”

Chuck and Gena got married in 1998, and in 2001, they welcomed twins, son Dakota and daughter Danilee.

As fans grieve his death, here’s a closer look at Chuck Norris’ family.

Gena has paved a varied career over the years. She started out modeling and also made a few TV appearances. Most notably, she had a small role on Walker, Texas Ranger, and appeared as herself on the CBS sitcom Yes, Dear back in 2003 alongside Chuck.

Around the time they met, Gena wasn’t just modeling — Chuck shared in Against All Odds that she was also working as a deputy sheriff in Chester, Calif. to support herself and her two kids from a previous marriage.

Chuck and Gena ran a nonprofit together

These days, Gena is more focused on business and philanthropy. She’s the CEO of CForce, the water bottling facility she and Chuck founded in 2015. Gena is also involved in Kickstart Kids, the nonprofit Chuck founded in 1990 that uses martial arts to help young people build confidence and character.

In a 2023 interview with NewBeauty, the couple talked about how much giving back means to them, especially through Kickstart Kids. “[It’s] truly a fantastic organization that teaches martial arts and character development to students,” they said. “We’ve reached more than 100,000 kids, and the breakthroughs that we’ve seen mean the world to us.”

Chuck was a father to five children.

His first wife, Dianne, gave birth to their son Mike in 1962. He followed in his famous dad’s footsteps, appearing in a few episodes of Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001) and even stepping behind the camera to direct movies like AmeriGeddon (2016) and The Crossroads of Hunter Wilde (2019). Mike and his wife, Valerie, have three kids, and as of January 2026, were preparing to become grandparents for the first time.

Chuck also has a daughter, Dina, who was born in 1964 from a previous relationship. They connected when she reached out to him as an adult, and over time, the two built a tight bond. They even went on a family trip to Hawaii in 2015 with her husband and kids.

In 1965, he and Dianne welcomed their second son, Eric. He made a name for himself in both racing and stunt work, including time spent doing stunts on Walker, Texas Ranger. Eric became the 2002 NASCAR Winston West Series champion and at one point pursued racing full-time, though he told ESPN in 2012 that it “didn’t work out.” Eric is married to his wife Stephanie and has four kids: Camrynn, Chloe, Chantz, and Cash.

Later on, Chuck and his second wife, Gena, welcomed twins, Dakota and Danilee, in 2001. Dakota followed a path similar to his father, training in martial arts. According to his Instagram bio, he holds a 5th-degree black belt. Dakota married his longtime girlfriend, Ashleigh, in November 2025.

Danilee, meanwhile, got engaged to boyfriend Garrett in early 2026. She also had a close relationship with her dad, and after his death, she posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, calling him “amazing” and saying he was her “protector the moment [she] was born.”

“My dad loved so deeply and cared for every single person in his life with so much tenderness. He may have a warrior exterior, but his heart was so full of love,” she continued. “To say how thankful I am for him being my dad is an understatement. … I am constantly filled with gratitude for how much wisdom and love he has bestowed me and my brother. I will forever carry on his legacy and shower others in that compassion that he so frequently showed.”

For decades, Chuck Norris was seen as a symbol of strength — a man whose on-screen persona blurred into legend. But behind that image was a quieter life, one centered on family, faith, and the people who knew him beyond the spotlight. Now, following his passing, those closest to him are beginning to share glimpses of a side the public rarely saw.

Among the most emotional tributes came from his daughter, who described him as her “protector from the moment I was born.” It was a simple sentence, but one that captured the essence of the man behind the fame. While the world remembers his achievements, his children remember the everyday presence — the guidance, the support, the unwavering role he played in their lives.

At the heart of the story, however, is his wife, Gena O’Kelley — the person who remained by his side until the very end. In a quiet but deeply moving statement, she spoke about their final day together. There were no dramatic scenes, no public farewells — just a sense of stillness, as if both understood that time was running out.

According to those close to the family, the day was filled with small, intimate moments — conversations, shared silence, and the kind of connection that doesn’t need words. It was, in many ways, a reflection of the life they had built together away from the cameras.

Yet it is what she chose not to fully explain that has captured the most attention. While acknowledging the circumstances of his passing, her words hinted at a longer, more private struggle — one that had been kept away from public view. Rather than offering clear answers, she spoke in fragments, suggesting that what happened in his final months was more complex than many might assume.

This has led to growing speculation, not rooted in scandal, but in curiosity. Was this a sudden loss, or the result of something that had been unfolding quietly over time? Why were these details only emerging now? And how much of his final chapter remains known only to those closest to him?

Meanwhile, tributes from fans and fellow public figures continue to pour in, celebrating a life that left a lasting mark on generations. But for his family, the focus remains far more personal — on memories, on loss, and on the process of saying goodbye.

As more reflections emerge, one thing becomes increasingly clear: the story of Chuck Norris’ final days is not defined by headlines, but by the quiet moments shared behind closed doors. And while the world may continue searching for answers, his family seems to be holding onto something far more meaningful — the parts of his life that never needed to be explained.
