“My heart is absolutely broken. Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita passed away” – At the graves of Grandma Janet and Grandma Paquita, Scotty McCreery sat quietly just after sunrise on the morning of July 11, guitar resting gently in his lap as soft light spilled over the dewy grass. With tears in his eyes, he began to sing “Five More Minutes,” his voice trembling with grief: “I’d give anything for five more minutes…” There was no crowd, no spotlight—only the breeze, the stillness, and a grandson trying to hold on to two women who shaped his soul. In that sacred moment, he didn’t long for fame or stages—just five more minutes with Janet and Paquita, to hug them tight, to whisper “thank you,” to hear one last “I love you.” But time had slipped away. And that song, on that quiet July morning, wasn’t just a melody—it was a prayer carried by the wind, straight from his breaking heart… WATCH VIDEO BELOW 👇

Scotty McCreery Says He Is “Heartbroken” After Losing Both Of His Grandmothers

Country singer Scotty McCreery took to social media to mourn two huge losses. Both his maternal and paternal grandmothers passed away on Wednesday (July 9).

He shared a photo of them both standing alongside him and his wife, Gabi, on their wedding day, writing, “My heart is absolutely broken. Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita passed away. I think I am still in a bit of shock as I type this, but I’m choosing to remember the great memories we all made with both of them. There really are too many to count.”

McCreery continued, “From being on the farm in Elizabeth City or visiting the Outer Banks with Grandma Janet. And then the incredible memories we made at the backyard pool in Pinehurst, all the way to visiting Puerto Rico with Grandma Paquita. Both of them truly taught me what love is all about. I will miss them dearly. If yall could keep my family in your prayers I’d appreciate it.”

Scotty’s mother, Judy, also shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook. Her mother, Janet, was 85 years old. She passed away shortly after 1 PM on July 9 after battling norovirus and the flu, which then led to dehydration and pneumonia.

I have to accept it was her time,” Judy said.

She continued, “This is hard to fathom, but we also lost Mike’s mom, Paquita, yesterday, a few hours later, at 4pm.”

Judy shared that Paquita was 93 and “had been in declining health.”

Family Means Everything To Scotty

Scotty McCreery is a family man down to his core. He was raised in a close-knit family, being incredibly close to both sets of grandparents. He is now instilling the same values he was raised on onto his children. He is dad to Avery, and gearing up to welcome his second child with his wife, Gabi.

His closeness to his grandparents was detailed in his song “Five More Minutes,” where he begs to have just five more minutes with his late grandfather. The song’s music video has been viewed over 159 million times, so there are lots of people who can relate to his plea.
