We Saw He Was Weak⌠But He Brushed It Off, And Walked Out Like a Legendâ â Two Sisters Reveal They Last Saw Ozzy Osbourne Just 2 Weeks Before His Death and His Last Words to Them. They remember clearly the moment Ozzy walked out on stage in Birmingham â where it all began. None of the tens of thousands of people in the audience knew that it was his silent farewell to the world.
Ozzy Osbourneâs sisters are sharing memories of their final reunion with the late rocker.
Jean Powell, 85, and Gillian Hemming, 80, said the last time they saw Ozzy, who they call by his real name John, was at Black Sabbathâs farewell concert in England, just a few weeks before his death on Tuesday, July 22.
âHe was frail, but it still came as a shock,â Powell told the U.K. outlet The Mirror, adding that she and her sister didnât know the âdetails of his deathâ but saying she was âthankful he died in England.â
âI got a text from him as he drove down Lodge Road, where we used to live near the stadium,â she recalled of some of her final interactions with her younger brother. âHe said he couldnât believe all the crowds were walking down our old street to watch him performâ
Recalling his performance at the show, she said, âIt was upsetting because he could not stand up straight, but he was still our John, still cracking the jokes.â
Osbourneâs family announced his death at age 76 on Tuesday, July 22. âIt is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,â the family said in a statement to PEOPLE. âHe was with his family and surrounded by love.â

The sisters said they received a phone call telling them that their brother had died on Tuesday, per The Mirror. He is their third sibling to have died out of six, with the sisters and their brother Paul remaining.
âTo us, he was our brother, not a celebrity, so itâs crazy to see the outpouring of love since his death was announced,â Powell said. âWe just canât believe he is gone, and we wonât be getting another phone call or text from him. Every week without fail he would get in touch.â
Ozzyâs death comes after he performed his final concert with Black Sabbath in his hometown of Birmingham on July 5. During the performance, he sat in a bat-themed throne after losing his ability to stand and walk due to Parkinsonâs disease, which he was diagnosed with in 2003.

Ozzyâs sisters said that their last time hanging out with him at the concert was brief but emotional.
âWe had an executive box in the stadium, and when I saw the sea of people waiting to see our John, I just broke down,â Powell told The Mirror. âWe didnât really get a chance to chat much because it was such a chaotic visit. But in his last text to me, he said he would be coming to Birmingham again ⌠We were hoping to see him this week.â
âWe were proud as punch about him and everything he achieved,â Hemming said. âBut it never went to his head. What the public saw of John was exactly what he was like in real life. It wasnât an act ⌠He was just great.â
