Hollywood is mourning the loss of legendary actress Diane Keaton, who passed away on October 11 at the age of 79. The beloved star, known for her iconic roles and timeless presence on screen, died from primary bacterial pneumonia, which she had been battling for several days prior to her passing. Her death certificate revealed that she last visited her doctor on October 9, just two days before she died. Three days later, Keaton was cremated, with no autopsy performed, as her death was attributed to natural causes.

RICHARD GERE’S EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE

One of the most heartfelt tributes came from actor Richard Gere, who shared his reaction during an appearance on Today on October 16. Gere and Keaton co-starred in the 1977 film Looking for Mr. Goodbar—the second film Gere ever made—and reunited more than four decades later for the 2023 romantic comedy Maybe I Do.

“Obviously, I think about her now. We made a film a few years ago, too. I hadn’t seen her in a long time,” Gere recalled. He described how, during the making of Looking for Mr. Goodbar, the two leaned on each other to get through intense and challenging scenes.

“That was a difficult film, this very kind of raw, sexual film. And she’s pretty shy and skittish. And I was, too. That was my second film. And we kind of took care of each other, getting through these kind of challenging physical scenes with each other,” Gere explained.

He went on to reflect on her personality with a tender remark:

“I remember just how sweet and gentle she was and how real. And I think anyone who’s ever worked with her is just like, ‘This is a real person.’”
