Monday’s episode of The Voice brought fans an unforgettable moment during the Battle Rounds as Aiden Ross and Ava Nat, both members of Team Niall Horan, delivered a stunning duet of Horan’s hit song “What a Time” alongside Julia Michaels.

After the performance, country legend Reba McEntire praised the young duo, saying, “You guys make a great duet. Your voices blend so well together. If it doesn’t work out individually, you might think about that. I thought it was a wonderful performance. Loved the song, great choice on that.” Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg jokingly called out Horan, saying, “That’s one of your songs, right? You cheating, man!”

While McEntire admitted she “couldn’t pick either”, leaving it to Horan to decide, Michael Bublé added, “Aiden, you have such a beautiful voice and I just love watching you go into your falsetto. Ava, there’s such a sweetness and richness in your tone. This is a really tough one.” Ultimately, Horan selected Aiden as the winner, highlighting his falsetto as a standout moment. Snoop Dogg, moved by the performance, compared it to “witnessing teenage love”, noting it left him on the verge of tears.

Aiden Ross: From College Student to The Voice Sensation

Hailing from College Station, Texas, Aiden Ross, 20, earned all four chair turns during his blind audition, performing Adele’s “Love in the Dark”.

Growing up on a family strawberry farm, Aiden learned to harmonize with his father and sister, writing his first song at age seven. Despite initially pursuing industrial engineering at Texas A&M, a year of college convinced him to follow his passion for music — a decision that led him to Los Angeles and The Voice.

Balancing academics, athletics, and music, Aiden honed his skills performing in his high school a cappella group and at local events. His father, Jim Ross, recalls buying him a left-handed guitar to accommodate his playing, which quickly became central to Aiden’s musical journey. “What I’m most proud of is really the kind of man he is becoming,” Jim said, emphasizing his son’s character, humility, and integrity alongside his talent.

While filming in Los Angeles, Aiden described the experience as “almost like a summer camp”, bonding closely with fellow contestants and enjoying a mix of busy filming days and creative free time. His girlfriend, Lauren Moore, watched his journey unfold from College Station, describing the experience as “really amazing” and praising his humility and positive attitude throughout the competition.

Ava Nat: Emotional and Poised

Ava Nat, a freshman at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, also left an impression with her heartfelt performance. Milone, as she’s also known, explained that she was inspired by artists like Gracie Abrams and Olivia Rodrigo to choose songs that allowed her to fully express emotion.

She said she initially considered Snoop Dogg as a potential coach but ultimately felt a strong connection with Niall Horan, citing his experience as a  TV singer and songwriter as the perfect match for her artistic growth.

Ava’s family has been a cornerstone of her journey. The youngest of three daughters — with one deceased — she credits her parents, attorneys Guy and Christina Milone, for instilling both resilience and a love of music.

Watching her perform on The Voice brought them immense pride, with Ava sharing a split-screen Instagram video of her family cheering during her audition. “It was surreal to watch me on @nbcthevoice,” she wrote. “Thank you to everyone who came to cheer me on! Team Niall: my mom, dad, sister Lily, and vocal coach Natalie — you all made this experience unforgettable.”

The Stage Chemistry That Won Hearts

For both Aiden and Ava, performing together was “weird but wonderful”, sharing the same emotional journey on a stage watched by millions. The combination of their raw talent, personal stories, and undeniable chemistry made this duet stand out as a highlight of Season 28.
