TODAY‘s Savannah Guthrie misspoke during a recent interview with Reba McEntire, and it prompted a comical response from the country music legend.

McEntire stopped by TODAY to talk about her upcoming role as the host of the Christmas in Rockefeller Center special airing on Wednesday (December 3). She also discussed her NBC sitcom Happy’s Place and her relationship with Rex Linn.

Linn and McEntire started dating in 2020, and they’re now inseparable. They even star together in Happy’s Place!

The couple got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2024, but kept the news secret for months. They finally announced their engagement at the Emmy Awards in September.

McEntire told Guthrie why she and Linn waited so long to announce their engagement:

“A lot of people did not know. And when he asked me to marry him, it was Christmas Eve a year ago. So we were gonna announce it when we got back to L.A., but the [wild]fires happened. And there was not room for our joy in [the] devastating situation that everybody else was in.“

As McEntire shared in the past, she and Linn are in no rush to walk down the aisle. They’re simply enjoying being engaged for the time being.

But because the pair is so deeply in love, Guthrie mistakenly said Linn was McEntire’s “husband” during her interview with the singer. McEntire stopped her, joking:

“Now, wait a minute. Before everybody has a conniption fit at home, we’re just engaged,” she said.

Guthrie apologized for misspeaking, to which McEntire responded, “My family will go, ‘Wait, you didn’t tell us?!‘”

When they finally tie the knot, McEntire and Linn will have a small, “low-key” ceremony.

“A Reba, Rex wedding is going to be very different,” McEntire said. “It’s going to be low-key, lots of fun, lots of people, lots of food. Our big motto is have fun.”
