Why Didn’t Niall Horan Perform During The Season 28 Finale Of The Voice?
When Niall Horan was unable to sing with his Voice finalists DEK of Hearts and Aiden Ross, fellow coach Reba McEntire and a former Voice winner stepped up to take his place onstage.
Also, be warned, this article contains spoilers for the Season 28 finale. We will mention the results and the winner!
During the first night of the Season 28 finale (December 15), host Carson Daly shared that Horan had been “really under the weather.” In fact, he was so sick, he didn’t know if he’d be able to appear on the finale.
Niall said it had been a “rough couple of weeks.” But he was finally feeling better by the time of the Voice finale. However, he was on vocal rest and unable to sing with his finalists, DEK of Hearts and Aiden Ross.
So at the last minute, Niall’s fellow coach, Reba McEntire, stepped up to sing with DEK of Hearts.
“I have to thank her,” Niall said.
Reba said, “I’m very proud of you, Niall, for making sure that you take care of yourself because we want you around with your beautiful voice for many years to come.”
Gina Miles, who won Season 23 of The Voice with Niall as her coach, returned to the show to sing with Aiden Ross. They performed “Last Christmas” together.
Singing with former champion Gina seemed to give Aiden some good luck…because he was crowned the winner of Season 28! In addition to Gina and Aiden, coach Niall previously won Season 24 of The Voice with Huntley.
Reba McEntire Sings “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town” With DEK Of Hearts
But before Aiden was named the winner of The Voice, Reba filled in for Niall to perform a Christmas collaboration with DEK of Hearts. They delivered a bubbly rendition of the classic holiday tune “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town.”
DEK of Hearts showcased their spectacular harmonies as they sang in unison with Reba. They sounded like a genuine country quartet!
If anything, this performance further solidified the fact that DEK of Hearts has a solid future ahead of them. Although they didn’t win The Voice (they came in third place), they won the “Mic Drop” competition earlier this season. As the Mic Drop winners, DEK of Hearts will perform during the Rose Parade on New Year’s Day. Voice fans can’t wait to see what they accomplish after that!
No matter where their career takes them, the trio will certainly never forget singing with Reba McEntire on the Voice finale. Watch their collaboration below.
