A paedophile who snatched a six-year-old girl from her bath before raping her and dumping her naked on a road could be released from prison.

Pervert Peter Voisey was locked up for life in 2006, for the attack on the youngster, after he sneaked into her home, bundled her into his Vauxhall Astra car and sexually assaulted her twice.

Following the 15-minute ordeal on the evening of December 27, 2005, she was then abandoned, crying for her mother just streets away from her address in Willington Quay, Wallsend, North Tyneside.

As he was jailed for life, with a minimum of ten years, Judge David Hodson warned Voisey, then 34, that he may never be released.

But a Parole Board panel will decide whether he is safe to return to the streets after 20 years behind bars after a hearing next month, which will be 54-year-old Voisey’s sixth parole review.

A spokesman for the Parole Board said: ‘An oral hearing has been listed for the parole review of PeterA Voisey and is scheduled to take place in February.

‘Parole Board decisions are solely focused on what risk a prisoner could represent to the public if released and whether that risk is manageable in the community.

‘A panel will carefully examine a huge range of evidence, including details of the original crime, and any evidence of behaviour change, as well as explore the harm done and impact the crime has had on the victims.

‘Members read and digest hundreds of pages of evidence and reports in the lead up to an oral hearing. Evidence from witnesses including probation officers, psychiatrists and psychologists, officials supervising the offender in prison as well as victim personal statements are then given at the hearing.

‘The prisoner and witnesses are then questioned at length during the hearing which often lasts a full day or more. Parole reviews are undertaken thoroughly and with extreme care. Protecting the public is our number one priority.’

Voisey was found guilty of rape, sexual assault and abduction following a trial at Newcastle Crown Court, where jurors were brought to tears by the harrowing evidence.

The court heard how the little girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been happily playing in the bath when Voisey crept into the flat she lived in with her family.

He put his hand over her mouth so she could not call out to her mother, who was putting her toddler brother to bed at the time.

She was playing happily and chatting with her toys, and her mother thought all was well, until she became suddenly aware of an eerie silence coming from the bathroom.

Apart from hearing her daughter say: ‘What are you doing here?’ there was not another sound, as the sex fiend struck.

On a 15-minute journey around Wallsend, Voisey parked twice to rape and sexually molest the youngster.

Meanwhile, her mum made a frantic 999 call and, just nine minutes later, police received another call from a couple living nearby.

The terrified schoolgirl was found by Geoffrey Brown, who had heard crying coming from the back lane and went out to find her standing in the street – naked, shivering and in tears.

Voisey was linked to the attack after leaving partial shoe prints on the wet bathroom floor as he crept into the family’s home through the back door.

The former driver from Blyth, claimed he had been buying cannabis at the time of the kidnap, but his friends refused to back up his lies meaning his alibi collapsed.

Police also recovered his diary in which the entry for December 27, 2005, read: ‘Phew, it’s over. Chill now.’

The paedophile was locked up on October 20, 2006, and has been behind bars ever since.
