Kelly Clarkson’s Adorable Kids Join Her Onstage in Las Vegas

Kelly Clarkson returned to the stage in Las Vegas as part of her Planet Hollywood residency on Friday night (Aug. 18), and she had a surprise for the fans in attendance — guest appearances from her two adorable children!

In a fan-shot TikTok video, Clarkson gives her son a big introduction, saying, “My son is seven years old. He picked the coolest song for a dude to pick. I was like, ‘He is destined for greatness just for loving this song alone.’”

She helps calm his nerves by reminding him they dance all the time at home, and after he reveals that the song he chose is “Whole Lotta Woman,” they launch into it, with him busting some sweet moves while she belts out the song.

“Give it up for Remy B!” Clarkson shouts at the end, causing the fans to give her son a massive round of applause.

A separate TikTok video shows Clarkson 9-year-old daughter, River Rose, joining her for a fun and very enthusiastic performance of “Heartbeat Song,” with the singer looking at her daughter closely to keep her attention and help guide her as they sing together and jump up and down, waving hands in the during the chorus. The performance drew another roar from the crowd, getting a laugh from Clarkson after her daughter yelled, “Thank you everyone!”

“You look gorgeous. You did amazing,” Clarkson says before her daughter leaves the stage. “I love you. I’ll see you in a little bit.”

The singing superstar and television personality turned to social media to share a picture of her kids ahead of another planned appearance on Saturday (Aug. 19). River Rose and Remy smile and sweetly embrace as they look at the camera in the heartwarming picture.

“Both of my kiddos backstage getting ready to join me on stage in Vegas,” Clarkson writes, adding a heart emoji. “Nothing will ever be as cool and amazing as these two little humans that will always have my whole heart.”

Clarkson kicked off her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino’s Bakkt Theater on July 28. It concludes with her scheduled performance on Saturday night.

“You’re Drunk, Go Home” (with Kelsea Ballerini and Carly Pearce)

Okay, so this one’s not a cover per se. Clarkson answered a call from Kelsea Ballerini to join her and Carly Pearce for an epic trio moment on Ballerini’s September 2022 album, Subject to Change. The results of these three vocal powerhouses teaming up in the studio are just as rafter-raising as you’d expect: “You’re Drunk, Go Home” is a twangy, sassy kiss-off to a guy who’s shooting his shot after throwing back one too many drinks at a bar.

These three come honestly by their empowerment anthem about the pitfalls of being a single woman out and about. All three went through very public divorces in the couple of years leading up to the release of this song, a piece of common ground that Ballerini has said made them especially meaningful duet partners on “You’re Drunk, Go Home.”

“The Story”

Speaking of soaring voices, Brandi Carlile’s range is pretty incredible, but Clarkson takes on “The Story” with care. Phil Hanseroth’s poignant lyrics shine in this cover of the standout title track of Carlile’s 2007 album. Add LeAnn Rimes and Dolly Parton to the list of women with stirring voices who have performed this track.

Clarkson’s version of “The Story” came in 2019, as a “Kellyoke” segment on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“Any Man of Mine”

Props to Clarkson for picking a Shania Twain hit that isn’t “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.” Twain’s signature song is great, but Clarkson’s version of “Any Man of Mine” lets her put her country stripes front and center. From the fiddle player following her around as she sings to the enthusiastic whoops she lets out as she kicks off her performance, Clarkson’s cover is pitch-perfect — and true-blue country.

“Walkaway Joe”

In her early-’90s original version, Trisha Yearwood sings this song so wistfully, and Clarkson, knowing not to fix what ain’t broke, offers the same take. One of Garth Brooks’ favorite ’90s country songs is a winner in Clarkson’s hands. She dials in the nostalgic feel just as Deana Carter does in the original, written by Matraca Berg and Gary Harrison. The original version of this song was released in 1996 as part of Carter’s classic Did I Shave My Legs For This? album, and Clarkson included her dreamy cover version in a 2020 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

“Girl Crush”

Covering a country mega-hit is a tall order for anybody, and all the more so when you’re a solo artist trying to convey the emotional power of four voices. Still, Clarkson more than rises to the challenge of putting her spin on this fan-favorite from Little Big Town. She skillfully keeps the heartache in her delivery, too.

Before her cover performance, Clarkson admitted that she was a little bit “mad that I didn’t write it, and even more mad that I didn’t get to record it.” When she launches into her version of “Girl Crush,” you can hear in her voice just how much heart and passion Clarkson has for this song.

Reba McEntire is a member of Clarkson’s family: McEntire was formerly married to Narvel Blackstock, the father of Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. While those marriages both eventually dissolved, the bond between Clarkson and McEntire remains strong — and Clarkson’s foot-stomping homage to one of McEntire’s most fiery hits is proof.
