âThe Second She Started Yodeling⌠The Room Froze.â âThe Voiceâ Coaches Didnât Expect This Blind Audition
The Voice continued on Monday night (March 2) as night two of Blind Auditions kicked off for Season 29, âBattle of Champions.â
Former winning coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend have all returned to take their seats in the iconic red chairs. The three superstars have just one goal: to prove that theyâre the ultimate champion coach.
Itâs the first time the show has ever done something like this, so the pressure is higher than ever. Because of that, contestants really have to bring their best. If they want to move on and land a spot on a team, they need to stand out and earn that very important chair turn.
One contestant viewers met, named Blair Elbert, understood that, so she decided to show off a surprising talent of her own during her audition.
Voice Contestantâs Powerful Yodeling Earns Her A Chair Turn

The 28-year-old country singer decided to take things in a different direction for her time on stage. Instead of choosing a modern hit, she went old school and performed âWide Rollinâ Plainsâ by Rosalie Allen.
What really surprised everyone, though, was that at the end of the song, Blair broke out into a full yodeling solo. Her performance earned her a chair turn from Kelly Clarkson.

Before Kelly spoke with her new team member, the other coaches shared their thoughts on Blairâs performance and explained why they chose not to turn their chairs.
âI did not turnâŚThere was a lot going on,â Coach John Legend began with his feedback. âIt was hard for me to keep up, honestly. So I was like âLet me not touch this, let me leave this to Kelly, sheâll probably figure it out.ââ
And although coach Adam Levine is hoping to get a country singer on his team this season, he says that as soon as he heard Blair yodel, he knew she would be a better fit with Kelly.
âItâs where you should be, and Iâm really happy for that,â he says.
Then, it was Kellyâs turn.
âI love the texture of your voice,â she said. âAny time the yodeling comes in, Iâm down. Because it does mean you have an element of control, especially with your breathing.â
Kelly explained that the main reason she pressed her button was that she kept thinking about Blair performing slower songs. If she could handle such a fast-paced track in her audition, Kelly believes she has a lot of potential moving forward.

âEverything that you showed me was what excited me to turn my chair around. Iâm so stoked. Welcome to Team Kelly,â she added.
As for fans watching at home, they were super excited that Kelly decided to give Blair a chance on her team. Many left comments praising the singerâs unique audition. A few messages left include:
âWow sheâs amazing! Terrific performance yeee hawwâ
âYou go gurl and you were meant to be Team Kelly! And the yodeling my goodnessss get it!!!!â
âShe is a diamond in the rough she has somethin unique in thereâ
