McEntire, who was a guest on Hudson\u2019s talk show on May 2, also spoke about why she thinks the song resonates with so many people<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The country music icon, 69, stopped by Hudson\u2019s talk show on Thursday, May 2, and the two performed\u00a0a surprise duet\u00a0of \u201cI\u2019m a Survivor,\u201d the iconic theme song for McEntire\u2019s long-running\u00a0sitcom\u00a0Reba<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The pair were chatting about how it\u2019s been nearly two decades since the show ended \u2014 which McEntire joked \u201cseems like a few years sometimes and 100 years other times\u201d \u2014 when Hudson asked why she thinks so many people love the theme song.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the reason why so many people can connect with the song \u2018I\u2019m a Survivor\u2019 is because it\u2019s relatable. I know you find the same thing in the songs you sing,\u201d McEntire replied. \u201cIf people can relate to it, they can connect to it. And I\u2019m a survivor \u2014 I mean, a woman who is working hard doing two jobs and raising kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hudson was quick to count herself among the song\u2019s many fans. \u201cYes ma\u2019am! It says it all. Yes, it does. You know that just touched my spirit, right, Reba?\u201d she said, before pointing out keyboardist Wayne Linsey waiting in the wings.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got Wayne Linsey on the keys \u2014 and you know what that means. You know I can\u2019t have you here \u2026 can we at least sing a little bit of it \u2019cause that way I get to have a little musical moment with you?\u201d the TV host asked McEntire, who gamely picked up two microphones from the table and handed one to Hudson.<\/p>\n

As the two prepared to sing, Hudson excitedly exclaimed, \u201cI get to sing with Reba, y\u2019all!\u201d The women then belted out a short but moving snippet of the song as the audience clapped and cheered.<\/p>\n

\nMcEntire also spoke to Hudson about a possible return to TV with a brand new sitcom. \u201cIt\u2019s called\u00a0Happy\u2019s Place<\/em>, and we\u2019ve shot the pilot on NBC and we\u2019re just waiting patiently, sorta, if they\u2019re going to take it to series or not,\u201d she said of the project. \u201cSo fingers crossed, everybody! Pretty please!\u201d<\/span> <\/p>\n

The sitcom will follow Bobbie (McEntire) as she inherits her father\u2019s restaurant but is dismayed to discover she has a new business partner in the half-sister (Belissa Escobedo) she never knew she had, according to a release from NBC. The show will see McEntire once again sharing the screen with her former\u00a0Reba<\/em>\u00a0costar\u00a0Melissa Peterman, who will play Gabby, the restaurant\u2019s bartender.<\/p>\n

McEntire also teased new music on the way during her appearance on Hudson\u2019s show. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be a new album coming out soon, but we\u2019ve got a new single that we\u2019ll be performing at the ACMs,\u201d the \u201cOnly in My Mind\u201d singer shared of the May 16 awards ceremony, which she is hosting.<\/p>\n

Just days before her duet with Hudson, McEntire made\u00a0a surprise appearance at Stagecoach\u00a0on April 27 and performed alongside\u00a0Miranda Lambert\u00a0during her headlining set. As fireworks flew and flames burst into the air, the duo sang McEntire\u2019s \u201cFancy\u201d and Lambert\u2019s \u201cMama\u2019s Broken Heart\u201d and \u201cGunpowder & Lead\u201d hits.<\/p>\n

A day after the performance, Lambert, 40, gave McEntire a shout-out\u00a0in\u00a0a message\u00a0posted on X (formerly Twitter), reflecting on the moment. \u201c@Reba at @stagecoach y\u2019all.\u00a0\ud83e\udd2f\ud83e\udd29Thank you to my hero and friend for coming out here as my special guest,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI\u2019ll never forget it.
