I was so pale. I didn\u2019t notice. I didn\u2019t realize,\u201d he said, adding that loved ones kept saying that he was \u201cso skinny\u201d and looked \u201clike a ghost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite repeated comments from loved ones, he said the changes were difficult to see in himself: \u201cI looked in the mirror and I was like: \u2018I\u2019m fine? I don\u2019t look skinny; I don\u2019t look pale.\u2019 I couldn\u2019t see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At one point, someone even asked whether he was a \u201c<a id=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/cancer\/\" href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/cancer\/\" type=\"link\">cancer<\/a>\u00a0patient,\u201d something he said he could not yet imagine.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-early-symptoms\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early symptoms<\/h2>\n<p>As the weeks went on, the\u00a0<a id=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/symptoms\/\" href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/tag\/symptoms\/\" type=\"link\">symptoms<\/a>\u00a0were no longer subtle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning and it felt like my lower back was breaking,\u201d he recalled. \u201cIt was that bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sleep offered little relief. Night after night, he found himself waking up drenched, unsure at first what was happening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I\u2019d wake up in the middle of the night and I\u2019d be sweating. One morning, I woke up and I thought I p**sed the bed \u2013 that\u2019s how bad it was,\u201d he said in the clip. \u201cI looked at my shirt and I was like: \u2018This is sweat?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even during the day, his energy seemed to disappear without explanation, leaving him \u201cvery, very tired.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-1171621246\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-0f65401f6808c0ec847368a0a3b146f4\" class=\"newsner-0f65401f6808c0ec847368a0a3b146f4 newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI could not move. I\u2019d wake up and a couple hours later I\u2019d be back in bed having a nap,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the exhaustion came other changes that were harder to define at first, including dry skin, persistent itchiness and chest discomfort that did not seem connected but continued to build over time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep in mind that since I got the blood test, up until now, I\u2019m having every single cancer symptom. I just didn\u2019t realize it,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-symptoms-came-back-worse\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms \u2018came back worse\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Eventually, the pain in his chest became impossible to ignore, and as his voice changed and he coughed up phlegm, Shew suspected \u201cbronchitis\u201d or a \u201cchest infection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But he was wrong. After a round of antibiotics, he \u201cgot sick again\u201d and the symptoms \u201ccame back worse this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With his condition continuing to worsen, he was sent for a CT scan and doctors were doctors were finally able to identify the cause \u2013 stage 4 Hodgkin\u2019s lymphoma.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-hodgkin-s-lymphoma\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hodgkin\u2019s lymphoma<\/h2>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/hodgkins-lymphoma\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20352646\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Mayo Clinic<\/a>, Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer that affects the lymphatic system, a key part of the body\u2019s immune defenses. This cancer \u2013 also known as Hodgkin disease \u2013 develops when certain white blood cells grow out of control, allowing the cancer to spread beyond the lymphatic system if left untreated.<\/p>\n<p>While Hodgkin lymphoma is often considered highly treatable, symptoms can easily be mistaken for common illnesses, which can delay diagnosis.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-2051637918\" class=\"newsner-article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"newsner-d3f8e3896c629caa18a51b109cae20ef\" class=\"newsner-d3f8e3896c629caa18a51b109cae20ef newsner-amp_article_inside_content\"><\/div>\n<p>Common symptoms may include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Swollen lymph nodes<\/li>\n<li>Fever<\/li>\n<li>Fatigue<\/li>\n<li>Night sweats<\/li>\n<li>Unexplained weight loss<\/li>\n<li>Itchy skin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"h-don-t-be-like-me\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Don\u2019t be like me\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>After around three months of treatment, Shew shared an update with followers, revealing that he is now in remission, while also reflecting on how quickly his life changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, cancer\u2019s cancer. And you don\u2019t want to have it right,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged others not to delay seeking medical advice when something feels unusual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t be like me and leave it to the last minute to go to the doctors.
