The 25 wins are the fifth-highest total in the history of the long-running TV game show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know he knows a lot, but not this much,\u201d said his father, Yuchuan Ding.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\"><\/div>\n<p>Jamie, 33, said he cherishes the time he spent in Michigan and hasn\u2019t left the state behind entirely \u2014 his phone number still has a 313 area code, after all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMichigan was and is a wonderful place to be,\u201d he said. \u201cThe emotional turning point of my first game was getting the clue about Belle Isle. After that, I felt like I was in the swing of things.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\"><\/div>\n<p>Jamie\u2019s younger sister, Jessie, 30, said she originally feared that Jamie would \u201ccrash and burn\u201d on the show. But when he got a \u201cJeopardy!\u201d question correct in which the answer was Detroit, she said both she and Jamie knew he would be fine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t want him to go on national TV and embarrass himself,\u201d said Jessie, adding with a laugh: \u201cBut he didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As of Thursday, Jamie has earned $702,000 on \u201cJeopardy!\u201d<strong>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<\/strong>the sixth most prize winnings ever compiled by a single contestant. He has answered 783 clues correctly, compared with 61 incorrect responses as of Wednesday\u2019s episode, according to the online database\u00a0The Jeopardy! Fan.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie\u2019s mother, Ning Yan, said many people have reached out to the family as Jamie continued to pile up win after win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFriends, family, everybody, classmates \u2026 tell us they are watching,\u201d Ning Yan said. \u201cIt\u2019s very exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before he became TV\u2019s latest game show star, Ding was one of the brightest youths in Metro Detroit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe started reading at the age of 3, and we provided him with all the possible materials we could,\u201d Yuchuan Ding said. \u201cHe\u2019s always been very curious about everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The elder Ding, who is a\u00a0professor of neurosurgery\u00a0at Wayne State University in Detroit, has vivid memories of young Jamie reading every informational plaque during family outings to the zoo. And at age 4 or 5, his dad said, Jamie saved his family some strife when he was able to understand the rules posted on a \u201cno parking\u201d sign and told his parents to move their car.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he\u2019s with us, we can\u2019t do anything wrong,\u201d Yuchaun said with a smile. \u201cHe\u2019s our guide.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"heading\">Jamie Ding\u2019s appearance turns parents into \u2018Jeopardy!\u2019 fans<\/h2>\n<p>The family has been watching Ding every night from their home in Grosse Pointe Shores, where Jamie and Jessie attended Grosse Pointe public schools from elementary through high school.<\/p>\n<p>Yuchuan said he wasn\u2019t familiar with \u201cJeopardy!\u201d before Jamie became one of its longest-reigning champs ever. But now he and his wife are regular viewers.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie\u2019s parents are originally from Beijing, where Yuchaun found career success as a cosmetic surgeon. He and wife, Ning Yan, left the country in 1989 after the political violence that erupted at Tiananmen Square, which the U.S. State Department said resulted in\u00a0hundreds to thousands\u00a0of Chinese protesters being killed by the People\u2019s Liberation Army.<\/p>\n<p>After residing for several years in Australia, where Jamie was born and Yuchuan earned his doctorate, the young family moved to Tennessee. I\u2019m very glad that I got to do something grand to make them proud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jamie is still a long way from matching current \u201cJeopardy!\u201d host Ken Jennings\u2019 2004 streak of 74 consecutive victories, but he\u2019s already tied him in one area. During one episode last month, he recorded 45 correct answers in a single episode, tying Jennings\u2019 mark.<\/p>\n<p>Episodes are taped months in advance, so the fate of Jamie\u2019s streak is already sealed. But that doesn\u2019t make the Dings\u2019 experience of seeing their child or brother rack up more winnings every night any less exciting.<\/p>\n<p>Jessie was in the audience at the \u201cJeopardy!\u201d set in Culver City, California, for Jamie\u2019s run.
