Madonna has once again found herself at the center of an online debate following a surprise appearance during\u00a0singer\u00a0Sabrina Carpenter\u2019s set at Coachella on April 17.<\/p>\n
The performance marked Madonna\u2019s return to the festival nearly 20 years after her 2006 appearance. While intended as a celebratory moment, it quickly sparked mixed reactions across social media, with some viewers criticizing her outfit. Others thought that she needed to let younger stars take the spotlight now.<\/p>\n
One person\u00a0wrote, \u201cSome people in the public eye can not admit when their time has passed!!! Just like an athlete who ruins their sports reputation to try and do one more season!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
Madonna\u2019s entrance was introduced by the instrumental of her 1990 hit\u00a0Vogue, as she rose from beneath the stage wearing a purple corset, matching bottoms, elbow-length gloves, and knee-high boots. Carpenter, meanwhile, performed in a white lace bodysuit paired with silver heels.<\/p>\n
Together, they performed\u00a0Vogue\u00a0and\u00a0Like a Prayer, along with what appeared to be a new track linked to Madonna\u2019s upcoming album\u00a0Confessions II.<\/p>\n
\u201cWow, thank you \u2026 Sabrina, thank you so much for inviting me to your show,\u201d Madonna said on stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo thanks needed, Madonna,\u201d Carpenter replied, as the two held hands in front of the crowd.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the moment,\u00a0Madonna\u00a0told the audience, \u201cSo, 20 years ago today I performed at Coachella\u2026 It\u2019s a full circle moment\u2026 very meaningful for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added, \u201cThe great thing about\u00a0music\u00a0is that it brings people together\u2026 everybody has a good time together, right?\u201d<\/p>\n
The set also included a lighthearted moment, with Madonna joking that it was likely the first time she had performed with someone \u201cshorter\u201d than her.<\/p>\n
As clips of the performance spread online, reactions poured in quickly\u2014and were sharply divided.<\/p>\n
\u201cHer narcissism is stronger than her common sense. She is embarrassing herself,\u201d one person\u00a0added.<\/p>\n
Others came to her defense. \u201cShe looks awesome. Fantastic performance by both,\u201d another user\u00a0added.<\/p>\n
