Garth Brooks\u00a0says that even as\u00a0he and wife\u00a0Trisha Yearwood\u00a0prepared to record \u201cShallow\u201d \u2014 an Oscar-winning song made famous by Bradley Cooper and\u00a0Lady Gaga\u00a0\u2014 he didn\u2019t think it\u2019d have a chance of making his new\u00a0Fun\u00a0album.<\/em><\/span><\/h5>\n

The song and the two lovers\u2019 energy just wouldn\u2019t quit, though, so here he is \u2014 seven months after\u00a0trying the song by request during Inside Studio G \u2014 dropping \u201cShallow\u201d as his next radio single.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always thought Bradley Cooper and I had a lot in common, now I know (it),\u201d Brooks\u00a0tells\u00a0Good Morning America\u00a0<\/em>during a Tuesday morning interview (Oct. 20).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShallow\u201d is from the movie\u00a0A Star Is Born<\/em>. It comes fairly early on, but Cooper and Lady Gaga\u00a0brought it to life during the\u00a02019 Oscars, when they took to the stage to sing it live. That universally praised performance cemented the song as\u00a0their<\/em>\u00a0song (it even fueled rumors of a romance).<\/p>\n

But Brooks and Yearwood are pretty convincing lovers, too \u2014 the country legend was joking when he said he and Cooper have something in common, sort of.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe both understand that a great song is just finding a great female singer \u2026 and just kind of hang on,\u201d he shares.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brooks and Yearwood\u00a0admitted they\u2019d cut the song for possible inclusion on\u00a0Fun<\/em>\u00a0during a September interview with\u00a0People<\/em>. It wasn\u2019t announced as his next radio single until one month later, and it sounds like he was skeptical at first. Their chemistry just couldn\u2019t be ignored.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything kind of lit up,\u201d Brooks tells Robin Roberts and company, \u201cBut you know, in this business, everything kind of lights up and then goes away. This did not go away.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the\u00a0Fun<\/em>\u00a0album, he says\u00a0his 2019 stadium tour and the dynamic audience helped make this his happiest record to date. \u201cDive Bar,\u201d his Top 10 duet with Blake Shelton, the Top 20 single \u201cAll Day Long,\u201d \u201cStronger Than Me\u201d and \u201cParty Gras\u201d are\u00a0four more titles fans may recognize.\u00a0Fun<\/em>\u00a0is Brooks\u2019 first album since\u00a0Gunslinger<\/em>\u00a0in 2016.<\/p>\n
