The\u00a0\u201cAmerican Idol\u201d\u00a0alum and current Queen frontman recently\u00a0shared on Instagram\u00a0that he was \u201cthrilled\u201d to be asked by Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, to perform at her holiday program in London for a bevy of special guests.<\/p>\n<p>Lambert, 41, dressed in an emerald green suit paired with gold glitter platform shoes met Princess Kate at the historic Westminster Abbey on December 8, 2023. And though he sang for the Royal Family during the Queen\u2019s Jubilee in 2022, he told People that he was \u201cquite far away on the other side of the crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cathedral has a rich history in the royal family, including being the site of the Prince and Princess of Wales\u2019 2011 wedding and\u00a0King Charles\u2019 coronation\u00a0in May 2023.\u00a0According to Westminster Abbey\u2019s website,\u00a0\u201c40 monarchs have been crowned in the Abbey since 1066.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lambert told People the Abbey is \u201ca place that I\u2019ve seen on television and in photos for years but have never been to myself, so it is quite breathtaking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always loved history and old architecture, and this is sort of my sweet spot,\u201d he continued. \u201cI was able to walk around a little bit after my rehearsal and just kind of take a little self-guided tour of some of the areas inside at the Abbey and it\u2019s just breathtaking, and the amount of history in here is nuts. You know you have the tombs of monarchs and poets and other iconic historical figures, so it\u2019s pretty wild.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lambert said he loved how serene the cathedral was for his performance at the Christmas concert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(It was) very still, which added a calmness to my energy,\u201d he said. \u201cThe song felt sort of like a lullaby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lambert isn\u2019t the only \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d star to have been invited to perform for the royal family this year.
