The suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker, was found deceased in the driveway.\u00a0<em>6 News<\/em>\u00a0reports that Walker was killed after Michael Hatcher took a handgun out of his vehicle and fired one shot in an effort to stop Walker.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>62-year-old Holly Hatcher, a well-respected teacher in the area, was found inside the home with fatal stab wounds<\/strong>. That afternoon, he toured the caverns before visiting a nearby Walmart, where he purchased a sleeping bag and a large knife.<\/p>\n<p>On the morning of August 2, the Virginia State Police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on Endless Caverns Road. They discovered the Caverns\u2019 store had been broken into.\u00a0<strong>Authorities concluded that Walker had broken into the store and entered the caverns, but nothing had been stolen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Felony warrants were obtained for Walker. Then, authorities received the call about the break-in at the Hatcher residence late on August 3.<\/p>\n<p>Since Walker is deceased, charges have not been filed in connection with the crime at the Hatcher home. He shared a statement on his social media pages, writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cIt is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that \u2013 due to a monumental loss in our family \u2013 I must cancel my upcoming shows. I hope to make these dates up to my fans in the future. I appreciate everyone that has lent their support to me and my loved ones. We ask that everyone please respect our family\u2019s privacy at this time.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hatcher\u2019s friends and fans shared their support for him in the comments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Hatchers expressed gratitude for all the prayers during this difficult time.<\/strong>\u00a0<em>6 News\u00a0<\/em>reports that Michael Hatcher, Spencer\u2019s father, said, \u201c<em>You have made it much more bearable through your outpouring of love and your caring and your kindness and support to all of us<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-who-is-spencer-hatcher\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Is Spencer Hatcher?<\/h2>\n<p>Spencer Hatcher grew up on a farm in Virginia\u2019s Shenandoah Valley. He started playing bluegrass and country music at a young age. He began playing the mandolin at age eight and started playing the banjo by age 12.<\/p>\n<p>Holly Hatcher played organ and piano, while Michael Hatcher played guitar and the banjo. Spencer\u2019s younger brother, Connor, learned to play bass, so they formed a band called The Hatcher Boys.<\/p>\n<p>Spencer and Conner spent Friday evenings playing bluegrass music at their community center. However, as the\u00a0\u201cAbout\u201d\u00a0section on his website details, Spencer started feeling pulled toward country music.<\/p>\n<p>Spencer got a record deal with Stone Country Records.\u00a0<strong>But shortly after that, he suffered a terrible accident.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Michael and Spencer climbed on the roof to look at a broken chimney. Spencer lost his footing, and fell 20 feet onto the hard rock below. He fractured his pelvis in three places, broke three ribs, and suffered a pulmonary contusion to his right lung. Doctors called it a \u201cmiracle\u201d that Spencer didn\u2019t sustain a head injury. He now has over 850,000 followers across his various social media platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Hatcher just released a new song, \u201cWhen She Calls Me Cowboy,\u201d shortly before his mother\u2019s tragic death.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to signing his record deal in 2024, Spencer also partnered with PepsiCo.
