Bruce Springsteen\u2019s youngest son Sam is \u201cTougher than the Rest\u201d \u2014 he was sworn in as a New Jersey firefighter Tuesday,\u00a0CBS New York\u00a0reported. Proud parents, the legendary New Jersey performer and fellow musician, wife Patti Scialfa, were at the ceremony to cheer him on.<\/p>\n

Sam was sworn in to the Jersey City Fire Department along with 14 others in his class,\u00a0according to a press release from the mayor. The department is now 666 strong, including uniformed firefighters and superiors.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a long road, he\u2019s very dedicated, quite a few years and we are just excited for him today,\u201d the rocker told\u00a0CBS N.Y.<\/p>\n

Springsteen and Scialfa, who have three children together, posed with Sam at the big event. Sam\u2019s brother Evan also attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old graduated from\u00a0New Jersey\u2019s Monmouth County Fire Academy\u00a0in 2014 and was a volunteer firefighter at three different stations, reports CBS New York.<\/p>\n

In August, Scialfa took to Instagram to congratulate Sam on becoming a firefighter. Scialfa wrote, \u201cYou followed your dreams.\u201d In the post, she included a black and white photo of her son.<\/p>\n

Bruce<\/span>\u00a0offered insight into his relationships with his children during an interview with \u201cCBS This Morning\u201d co-host Gayle King in October. Springsteen told King how his complicated relationship with his father influenced how he raised his own kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, there were a lot of mistakes I didn\u2019t want to make. And I think the way you look at it is, like, I don\u2019t want my kids to have to dig themselves out of my hole. They\u2019re gonna have their own hole they got to dig themselves out of. That\u2019s just part of life, you know? Now, you\u2019re always gonna \u2014 we always pass something along,\u201d\u00a0he said<\/span>. \u201cAnd that\u2019s just \u2014 that\u2019s just life, you know?
