Bruce Dern<\/strong>\u00a0is speaking out for the first time since his ex-wife\u00a0Diane Ladd<\/strong>\u00a0died at the age of 89.<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0statement\u00a0to\u00a0Us Weekly<\/em>\u00a0on Monday, Nov. 3, Dern, 89, reflected on Ladd\u2019s\u00a0life\u00a0and career.<\/p>\n

\u201cDiane was a tremendous actress and I feel like, a bit of a \u2018hidden treasure\u2019 until she ran into\u00a0David Lynch,\u201d Dern said. \u201cWhen he cast her as Laura\u2018s mom in\u00a0Wild at Heart<\/em>\u00a0it felt like the world then really understood her brilliance. She was a great value as a decades-long board member of SAG, giving a real actress\u2019 point of view.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe lived a good life,\u201d he continued. \u201cShe saw everything the way it was. She was a great teammate to her fellow actors. She was funny, clever, gracious. But most importantly to me, she was a wonderful mother to our incredible wunderkind daughter. And for that I will be forever grateful to her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ladd and Dern married in 1960 and the couple shared daughters\u00a0Diane Elizabeth<\/strong>, who died at age eighteen months after a drowning accident, and\u00a0actress\u00a0Laura Dern<\/strong>. The couple divorced in 1969, but continued to work together on various films and television shows.<\/p>\n

In 2010, Ladd, Bruce and Laura received adjoining stars on the\u00a0Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking the first time\u00a0family\u00a0members have been given such a consideration on the monument.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were blessed to have her,\u201d she added. \u201cShe is flying with her angels now.\u201d<\/p>\n
