One staffer tells the Daily Mail that morale once got so low that everyone was proofreading each other\u2019s resumes.<\/p>\n

\u2018We were seeing speculation in the media that Kelly was going to quit and be replaced by\u00a0Hoda Kotb<\/span>,\u2019 the staffer said.<\/p>\n

\u2018So we were all looking for other jobs. We forwarded job postings to each other, networked for each other. A lot of people were ready to bolt. No disrespect to Hoda, but we didn\u2019t know what was happening or if there would even be a job for us.\u2019<\/p>\n

Things got particularly tense when Clarkson, 43, vanished for several days in March.<\/p>\n

In the end, Clarkson\u2019s break from screens spanned ten episodes. But, upon her return to work, staff noticed that the\u00a0Grammy<\/span>\u00a0winning singer \u2013 once a hands\u2013on boss who was said to know the names of each staff member\u2019s family \u2013 had become distant and aloof.<\/p>\n

\u2018It was just such a difference from how she had been before,\u2019 the staffer said. \u2018It was hard for people to not take it personally. Like what did we do to suddenly be ignored like this?\u2019<\/p>\n

That question was answered in August when Clarkson\u2019s ex-husband and father of her two young children, Brandon Blackstock, suddenly\u00a0died aged 48<\/span>\u00a0after a two\u2013year battle with cancer.<\/p>\n

Blackstock and Clarkson had divorced in 2022, but his ill health had been kept secret, leaving Clarkson to bear that weight in private.<\/p>\n

\u2018Suddenly, it was all clear to everyone,\u2019 said the staffer. \u2018And boy, did we feel like sh**. We judged Kelly too soon. We didn\u2019t see what she was going through.\u00a0We made it all about us. It just goes to show that you should never jump to conclusions. You just never know.\u2019<\/p>\n

Following the ten-episode hiatus, Clarkson\u2019s reputation took a second battering in July, when she was forced to abruptly cancel a scheduled show in\u00a0Las Vegas just 90 minutes before it was due to start.<\/p>\n

Like the staff on her show, concertgoers were in the dark about her personal struggles, with\u00a0Clarkson simply telling fans that she was \u2018devastated\u2019, while blaming a strained voice and promising to postpone the concerts.<\/p>\n

In fact, the only inkling of Blackstock\u2019s health battle came the night before his death was announced. On August 6, Clarkson cancelled all remaining show dates in her Las Vegas residency, writing in a statement: \u2018While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children\u2019s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.\u2019<\/p>\n

Blackstock\u2019s family announced his passing the following day.<\/p>\n

Clarkson and Blackstock\u00a0\u2013 her one-time talent manager and the stepson of singer Reba McEntire \u2013 had\u00a0two children together, daughter River Rose, 11, and nine-year-old son Remington Alexander.<\/p>\n

They divorced citing \u2018irreconcilable differences\u2019 in 2022 after a highly publicized split. Until last year, Clarkson was paying\u00a0Blackstock $115,000 a month for spousal support and $45,000 for child support.<\/p>\n
