And with a soft, steady voice that seemed to echo across the entire stadium, he said: \u201cThis one\u2019s for you, 94. We love you \u2014 we miss you.\u201d It was a tribute that no one saw coming, but one that felt heartbreakingly right. Marshawn Kneeland, the 24-year-old former Cowboys player who passed away suddenly on November 6, had been on the minds of fans for weeks. Post Malone\u00a0gave a special shoutout during the\u00a0Thanksgiving NFL halftime show.<\/p>\n

The rapper-turned-country-star, 30, performed at the Dallas Cowboys vs. Kansas City Chiefs halftime show in the Lone Star State, where he was raised, on Thursday, Nov. 27. At the end of his performance, he paid tribute to late Dallas Cowboys player\u00a0Marshawn Kneeland.<\/p>\n

Malone performed a melody of three songs at the football game, including \u201cWrong Ones,\u201d \u201cWow\u201d and \u201cI Had Some Help.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer addressed the audience after his third song, saying, \u201cI love you so much, Dallas, Texas. Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for the best team in the world: the Dallas Cowboys.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the crowd cheered, he continued, \u201cI hope everybody has a great night. I hope everybody has a happy Thanksgiving, and I love you more than I could ever say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we love you, 94. We love you,\u201d Malone concluded, in reference to Kneeland.<\/p>\n

Kneeland, whose jersey number was 94 during his time with the Cowboys,\u00a0died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound\u00a0at age 24 on Nov. 6.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning\u201d the Cowboys said in a statement shared with PEOPLE at the time. \u201cMarshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malone also wore a pin with the number 94 on it during his performance in another nod to the former defense end.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the musician\u2019s first NFL rodeo. Last year, he made a surprise appearance during\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s\u00a0Christmas Day halftime show\u00a0in Houston, joining her in the performance of their hit song \u201cLEVII\u2019S JEANS.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, the star\u00a0sang \u201cAmerica the Beautiful\u201d\u00a0at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas in February 2024.<\/p>\n

I grew up a Cowboys fan and have been watching this halftime show for years,\u201d Malone said in a\u00a0story posted on the Cowboy\u2019s website. \u201cIt\u2019s a real honor to be part of the Red Kettle Kickoff with The Salvation Army and the Dallas Cowboys and help bring hope to so many people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malone\u2019s halftime show comes six months after he performed his sold-out hometown show at AT&T Stadium during his Big Ass Stadium Tour in support of his\u00a0F-1 Trillion\u00a0<\/em>album.<\/p>\n
