The duo honored George\u2019s legacy with a powerful rendition of his iconic hits, capturing the deep emotion of the moment as they celebrated his unparalleled impact on country music."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When country legend George Jones died in 2013, his most famous contemporaries joined forces together to pay tribute to the one who gave the genre its ultimate voice.<\/p>\n<p>It would have been the final stop of George Jones\u2019 Farewell Tour at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville; sadly,\u00a0the singer passed away\u00a0on April 26, 2013, after he had been hospitalized with fever and irregular blood pressure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-inside\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-inread\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Still, friends and family pushed for the show to happen at one special event called\u00a0Playin\u2019 Possum! The Final No Show Tribute To George Jones.<\/p>\n<p>The tribute included performances from Alabama, Dierks Bentley, Reba McEntire, Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, Miranda Lambert, Alan Jackson, and a lot more, with surprising guests. All of Jones\u2019 beloved hits from\u00a0\u201cI Don\u2019t Need Your Rockin\u2019 Chair\u201d\u00a0to \u201cWhen The Last Curtain Falls\u201d to\u00a0\u201cThe Race Is On\u201d\u00a0were performed, but the special event\u2019s highlight was definitely had to be Alan Jackson closing out the show with one of the greatest country music songs of all time,\u00a0\u201cHe Stopped Loving Her Today.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">One Of The Most Endearing Friendships In Country Music<\/h2>\n<p>While\u00a0George Jones\u00a0and\u00a0Alan Jackson\u2018s careers took off in different eras, the two collaborated many times and developed a friendship that lasted for years. They understood each other more than some of their peers. After all, Jackson grew up listening to Jones and considered The Possum, his hero.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-inpage\"><\/div>\n<p>So, there\u2019s definitely no better way than Jackson capping off the tribute with \u201cHe Stopped Loving Her Today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And in the middle of his performance, just before hitting the final chorus, something amazing happened \u2013 Jackson invited Jones\u2019 widow and wife of three decades, Nancy, onto the stage with him. \u201cLet\u2019s sing one in honor of George,\u201d he went on, with Nancy joining him at his microphone.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s definitely no dry eye in the entire arena.
