Country Artists Pay Tribute To The \u201cKing Of Country,\u201d George Strait, At Kennedy Center Honors<\/h2>\n

\u201cWe can hardly imagine the country music phenomena without its \u2018King of Country,\u2019\u201d<\/em>\u00a0said President Donald Trump on Dec. 6 in the Oval Office as he presented George Strait and the other 2025 Kennedy Center Honorees with medallions.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s sentiment continued to ring true during the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, which occurred on Dec. 7, but was broadcast on CBS on Dec. 23.<\/p>\n

Introducing the tribute to George Strait\u00a0<\/strong>was Vince Gill, who said,\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cHe gives such a true and genuine view of country music\u2026your authenticity is why we call you our King<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the balcony, Strait could be seen smiling and even tearing up at times during his tribute.<\/p>\n

The songs that were performed showed the strength in Strait\u2019s body of work, with music performed from his second album, the 1982 release\u00a0Strait From the Heart<\/em>; all the way to his 2008 album,\u00a0Troubadour<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Brooks & Dunn Perform \u201cAmarillo By Morning\u201d<\/h2>\n

Country duo Brooks & Dunn kicked off the tribute to Strait by performing \u201cAmarillo By Morning.\u201d Strait appeared misty-eyed as he listened to them sing.<\/p>\n

This song, while it was originally released in 1973 by Terry Strafford, would go on to become one of the most enduring hits of Strait\u2019s career when he released his rendition of it on his 1982 album\u00a0Strait From the Heart<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Vince Gill Sings \u201cTroubadour\u201d<\/h2>\n

In addition to introducing Strait\u2019s portion of the show, Vince Gill took to the stage to perform, opting to sing \u201cTroubadour.\u201d<\/p>\n

This was particularly timely, as Gill was honored by Strait with the\u00a0Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award\u00a0at the 59th Country Music Association Awards on Nov. 19.<\/strong><\/p>\n

No one expected Strait to be in attendance at the CMA Awards, which made it all the more special.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the Kennedy Center Honors, however, the secret was already out, as Gill and Strait were seen on the red carpet together.<\/p>\n

Gill\u2019s performance of \u201cTroubadour\u201d was moving and heartfelt. His admiration and respect for Strait came through clear as day during his tribute.<\/p>\n
