Stevie Nicks<\/span>\u00a0has shared a moving handwritten note to her Fleetwood Mac bandmate\u00a0Christine McVie<\/span>, following news that the keyboardist has died aged 79 after a \u2018short illness.\u2019<\/p>\n

In the touching tribute, Nicks, 74, called McVie her \u2018best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975.\u2019<\/p>\n

McVie famously left Fleetwood Mac after 28 years in 1998\u00a0following years of rumored turmoil between band members<\/span>, but returned in 2014.<\/p>\n

The letter includes quotes from the song Hallelujah by American rock band Haim, which was written following the death of band member Alana Haim\u2019s friend, who died in a car accident.<\/p>\n

She went on: \u2018I wanted to get to London but we were told to wait. So, since Saturday, one song has been swirling around in my head, over and over and over. I thought I might possibly get to sing it to her, and so, I\u2019m singing it to her now.\u2019<\/p>\n

Earlier,\u00a0McVie\u2019s family said in a statement she was \u2018a\u00a0revered musician who was loved universally\u2019 and was surrounded by loved ones when she died.<\/p>\n

\u2018We kindly ask that you respect the family\u2019s privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being.\u2019<\/p>\n

Her former bandmates said tonight they\u2019re devastated by the loss, describing her as \u2018the best friend anyone could have in their life\u2019.<\/p>\n

The British-American rock band was one of the most successful groups of all time, selling 100 million records globally.<\/p>\n
