MOSCOW, Idaho<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/span>Steve Goncalves, the father of\u00a0University of Idaho murder victim\u00a0Kaylee Goncalves, told Fox News that he has lost confidence in the police investigation surrounding his daughter\u2019s death as poor communication and a\u00a0lack of progress\u00a0in the case leaves the victim\u2019s families desperate for answers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not feel confident,\u201d Goncalves said on \u201cFox & Friends\u201d Sunday when asked about the investigation. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why I push the envelope and say a little bit more. I hate to be that guy, but, you know\u2026everybody has a job and a role to play and this is my role as the parent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goncalves\u2019 daughter and her childhood best friend, 21-year-old Madison Mogen, were found dead on the third floor of their\u00a0Moscow, Idaho,\u00a0residence around noon on Nov. 13, while victims Xana Kernodle, 20, and her boyfriend, 20-year-old Ethan Chapin, were found on the second floor.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials investigating\u00a0quadruple murder\u00a0were criticized after they appeared to reverse their claim that one or more of the victims were \u201ctargeted,\u201d saying later that they do not know if that is the case and that the suggestion by Latah County prosecutor Bill Thompson was a result of a \u201cmiscommunication\u201d.<\/p>\n

Steve Goncalves, who repeatedly\u00a0expressed frustration\u00a0with the lack of transparency by the police, said he was instructed not to divulge whether his daughter or any of the other victims were targets of the attack. He did, however, call on investigators to share the alibis of certain unnamed individuals with the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s layers of separation,\u201d he said. \u201cThe communication is not the same as the boots on the ground. All the officers that are out on the streets, those guys are working their tails off. But there\u2019s a different person who does the communication. And that guy\u2019s sitting with the lawyer and that guy\u2019s sitting there telling him you\u2019ve got to protect things that are beyond the case, like the town and the community and the college itself. Those don\u2019t matter as much to me,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I definitely don\u2019t want to hurt them, but I have an agenda. And I think it\u2019s pretty clear it\u2019s these two girls and that\u2019s what I\u2019m working for. And I\u2019m not going to let that story fall apart just because they don\u2019t want wanted posters, you know, on their next rush of students that come into town,\u201d Goncalves said.<\/p>\n

Goncalves vowed to continue speaking out publicly and has encouraged the other victims\u2019 families to do the same in the hopes of advancing the investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have talked to, obviously, Maddie\u2019s mother and her father and I\u2019ve talked to Xana\u2019s father and he said, \u2018hey, you can speak on our behalf and you can help push this narrative.\u2019 So I feel confident there. That\u2019s as far as the real communications that I have,\u201d he said, mentioning that he has not had the chance to \u201cget on the same page\u201d yet with the Chapin family, \u201cso I try not to mention that and stay within my lane of what is my role. I\u2019m not trying to just give it all to my daughter. It\u2019s just I can\u2019t speak for other people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked whether he believes investigators are any closer to finding his daughter\u2019s killer, Goncalves said plainly, \u201cWish I knew for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI did sit down with the investigator, the lead investigator, and I looked in his eyes and I got a sense that this guy was going to do everything in his power to get \u2013 to figure something out,\u201d he said. \u201cBut if the evidence isn\u2019t there, that\u2019s the part that I\u2019m concerned [about].\u201d<\/p>\n

Goncalves also revealed that he believes his daughter and her best friend may have been targeted based on the perpetrator\u2019s\u00a0suspected entry and exit\u00a0point, telling Fox News that a sliding glass door or window on the second floor of the home \u2014 which meets a hill on the ground level in the backyard \u2014 \u201care available without having to go upstairs or downstairs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[The killer\u2019s] entry and exit are available without having to go upstairs or downstairs. Looks like he probably may have not gone downstairs,\u201d Goncalves revealed. \u201cWe don\u2019t know that for sure, but he obviously went upstairs. So I\u2019m using logic that he chose to go up there when he didn\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/p>\n
