Just moments later, Bad Bunny received a standing ovation from the star-studded crowd inside the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles when he began his acceptance speech for best m\u00fasica urbana album with a call to remove U.S.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Immigration and Customs\u00a0Enforcement from U.S. cities.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore I say thanks to God, I\u2019m going to say ICE OUT,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re not savages, we\u2019re not animals. We are humans, and we are Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Puerto Rican artist, who also won the night\u2019s biggest award, album of the year, went onto call on people to fight hate with love.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love,\u201d he said. \u201cSo please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. We don\u2019t hate them \u2014 we love our family. Don\u2019t forget it. That\u2019s how we do it, with love.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his album of the year acceptance speech in Spanish, Bad Bunny dedicated the award \u201cto all the people that had to leave their homeland, their country, to follow their dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Grammy winner is scheduled to be the halftime performer at next week\u2019s\u00a0Super Bowl, a performance that has already been met with\u00a0controversy\u00a0because of his heritage.<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny sings almost exclusively in Spanish and is expected to perform in Spanish during the Super Bowl halftime event.<\/p>\n

When his selection was announced, some conservative critics cited his Spanish language music and performances and his outspoken\u00a0support\u00a0of immigrants in the U.S. amid\u00a0ICE crackdowns\u00a0as reasons he should not have been picked for the halftime show.<\/p>\n

Since then, the controversy around immigration has only heightened, most recently following the deaths of Minneapolis residents\u00a0Alex Pretti\u00a0and\u00a0Renee Good\u00a0last month at the hands of\u00a0federal agents\u00a0amid anti-ICE protests.<\/p>\n

Several stars including Hailey and Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, and Carole King wore \u201cICE Out\u201d pins to the Grammys on Sunday.<\/p>\n

When Eilish accepted her song of the year award during Sunday\u2019s ceremony, she too used her acceptance speech to speak out on immigration.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one is illegal on stolen land,\u201d Eilish said in her speech, some of which was censored, seemingly due to profanity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now,\u201d the \u201cWildflower\u201d singer continued.\u00a0\u201cAnd I just I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later in the show, Harvey Mason, Jr., president and chief executive officer of the Recording Academy, which presents the Grammys, spoke about the power of music in times of crisis, saying, \u201cWhen words fail, music speaks.\u201d<\/p>\n

SZA, while accepting the Grammy for record of the year alongside Kendrick Lamar, told people to have hope.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease don\u2019t fall into despair. I know that right now is a scary time. I know the algorithms tell us that it\u2019s so scary, and all is lost,\u201d she said. \u201cBut there\u2019s been world wars, there\u2019s been plagues, and we have gone on. We can go on.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer added, \u201cWe need each other. We need to trust each other and trust ourselves. Trust your heart. We\u2019re not governed by the government. We\u2019re governed by God.\u201d<\/p>\n
