Authorities in Pima County, Arizona are now treating the disappearance of Today show host Savannah Guthrie\u2019s mother, Nancy Guthrie (84), as a possible crime, saying the circumstances at her home point to something more than a simple missing-person case.<\/h1>\n

The mysterious disappearance of \u201cToday\u201d show host Savannah Guthrie\u2019s mom is now being investigated as a crime, authorities said Monday \u2014 citing \u201csuspicious\u201d circumstances at the 84-year-old woman\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

Nancy Guthrie was last seen around 9:45 p.m. Saturday at her million-dollar residence in the rural Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, where officials said they found a \u201cvery concerning\u201d scene \u2014 and some of the grandma\u2019s key personal items were reportedly left behind, including life-saving medicine.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know she didn\u2019t just walk out of there. She did not leave on her own,\u201d Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a press conference Monday.<\/p>\n

He refused to elaborate further on exactly why cops think a crime was committed, saying, \u201cIt would be inappropriate at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

But authorities said they recovered Nancy\u2019s cellphone and are combing through it for possible clues \u2014 while a source told the Daily Mail that the missing woman left behind other basic crucial personal items, too.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer stuff was left behind at the house: keys, ID, purse, phone, everything,\u201d someone close to the star told the outlet.<\/p>\n

The elderly woman also apparently left behind medicine she needs to take daily to survive.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not a situation where she voluntarily went away because she didn\u2019t take any of the things you would normally take if you voluntarily went out,\u201d the source told the outlet.<\/p>\n

Nanos told reporters, \u201cWe believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime, and we\u2019re asking the community\u2019s help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Authorities have been searching for the elderly matriarch since she was reported missing by her family late Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Nancy was last seen Saturday night by at least one of her children, who dropped her off at the house, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Savannah, who has an older brother and sister, is currently in the Tucson area, officials said.<\/p>\n

A church-goer called the family Sunday morning to say Nancy hadn\u2019t shown up for services, and the worried relatives phoned the cops, officials said.<\/p>\n

Nanos said that while Nancy has trouble walking, she is \u201cof great sound mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a dementia-related \u2026 She is as sharp as a tack. The family wants you to know she didn\u2019t just wander off,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer physical limits are based on just age.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nancy posted regularly on social media, with her last activity being an anti-ICE post she reshared on Facebook on Jan. 27.<\/p>\n

A desperate race against time is on to find her, as\u00a0Nancy requires daily medication to survive, according to her family and the police.<\/p>\n

She \u201cis in need of medication, medication that if she doesn\u2019t have it in 24 hours, it could be fatal,\u201d Nanos said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTime is very critical.\u201d<\/p>\n

Authorities are poring over security footage at the house, and asked local residents to look through their Ring camera videos, too.<\/p>\n

Nanos, asked by a reporter whether TV celebrity Savannah had had any threats against her, responded, \u201cWe\u2019ve spoken to her, we\u2019ll continue to work with that.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe has a security team that\u2019s been in touch with us throughout the night,\u201d he said. \u201cBut we\u2019re not going to dismiss any angles for sure.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut right now, immediately, we don\u2019t know of anything like that.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Savannah, who joined \u201cToday\u201d officially as co-host in June 2011,\u00a0skipped Monday\u2019s show\u00a0as a result of her mother\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,\u201d she said in a family statement Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department at (520) 351-4900,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
