Vince Gill\u00a0said he once nearly came to blows with a good friend after he \u201cflipped\u201d on him and started disparaging his wife, Amy Grant.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody that meets her is crazy about her,\u201d the country star told Phil Rosenthal and David Wild on their\u00a0\u201cNaked Lunch\u201d\u00a0podcast on Thursday. \u201cI remember when we were first getting married, I was really good friends with [legendary radio host] Don Imus \u2026 And he was, you know, he was a character, and he\u2019s loved me forever and me and Delbert McClinton were his favorite, two of his favorite singers.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Gill said after he and Grant married, Imus \u201cflipped\u201d on him and \u201ckind of turned on me and started running me down and ragging me on his show every morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gill said Imus would say, \u201c\u2019I can\u2019t believe my favorite singer, Vince Gill, lost the Baby Jesus, married that Christian girl,\u2019 and blah blah blah. So, he was just wearing my a\u2013 out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after, when he had a\u00a0new record\u00a0come out, he said he told his publicist he wanted to get booked on Imus\u2019 show.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they said, \u2018Are you nuts?\u2019 I said, \u2018No.\u2019 I said, \u2018I want to go do the show.\u2019 And they said, \u2018Well, he\u2019s ragging on you every day.\u2019 I said, \u2018I know.\u2019 And so I got booked on the show,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

He first sang a song on Imus\u2019 show, and then they had a little small talk, \u201cand then finally Amy\u2019s name came up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said something about Amy and I said, \u2018I\u2019m glad you brought Amy up,\u2019\u201d he continued. \u201cI said, \u2018I\u2019ve been hearing you say some pretty ugly things about\u00a0my wife, and I\u2019m just kind of curious why.\u2019 I said, \u2018You used to be a great supporter of mine\u2019 and this and that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cWhen I Call Your Name\u201d singer confronted Imus with the fact that he had never met Grant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018Well, if you ever met her, you\u2019d never say an unkind word about her,\u2019\u201d Gill said, adding that he told Imus, \u201c\u2018I\u2019m going to shoot you straight.\u2019 I said, \u2018I really only came on this show for one reason.\u2019 I said, \u2018We\u2019re either going to talk this out, straighten this out,\u2019 I said, \u2018or I\u2019m going to crawl across this desk, and I\u2019m going to kick your a\u2013.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018Good choice, Don,\u2019 you know, and so we had a great visit, and I left the studio and was headed home, and I turned on his show and he was still on, and I heard him say, \u2018I don\u2019t know why I was giving that guy so much crap. I love that guy,\u2019 you know, and he completely turned, and we stayed great friends until his passing.\u201d<\/p>\n
