Kelly Clarkson is a loud and proud fan of pop artist Chappell Roan. As such, she paid tribute to the rising star during a recent Kellyoke segment on her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Kellyoke is a segment in which Clarkson takes to the stage and performs covers of famous songs. Many of those songs are unlikely choices that Clarkson always seems to hit perfectly regardless. The segment has become hugely popular, namely because Clarkson tends to pick “surprising” songs and absolutely kills them every time. Her recent cover of “Red Wine Supernova” by Chappell Roan is no different.
During the January 16 segment of Kellyoke, Clarkson whipped out a stunning rendition of the synth-pop song, and the cover included some spicy lyrics that shocked quite a few viewers.
Those who loved this week’s Kellyoke praised Clarkson for her incredible cover. Just as well, some voiced surprise over the choice to sing a few spicy lyrics from the original version of the song. Specifically, the lyrics in question are “I got a wand and a rabbit.” We’ll let you put two and two together.
One can’t deny that Clarkson had a little sparkle in her eye as she sang the “taboo” line in the song, and fans caught on to it.
“Kelly really sang, ‘Heard that you like magic, I’ve got a wand and a rabbit’ and I have nuthin but respect,” said one fan in the comments of Clarkson’s Instagram post of the song.
“She could sing the ingredients in spaghetti sauce and it would be a banger,” said another.

Kelly Clarkson’s “Red Wine Supernova” cover is on another level. However, it’s far from the only song that Clarkson has absolutely nailed during Kellyoke. Fans were buzzing like crazy when she whipped out some unconventional wild cards in the past. Just a few include her high-note-hitting cover of “Fake Plastic Trees” by Radiohead and her haunting rendition of “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish.
Clarkson’s voice has also been a great fit for songs like “My Love Mine All Mine” by Mitski and “Like Eating Glass” by Bloc Party. This girl can’t be pigeonholed as a vocalist. She won American Idol for a reason, after all.
