Keith Urban has likely been invited to countless weddings over the years. But one of his favorite memories is of one he crashed, early in his career.

“I crashed a wedding one time when my first album came out,” Urban recalls to WKML. “There was a song on it called ‘I Wanna Be Your Everything.’ It was a single when it came out, and we played in the Smoky Mountains. We get off the tour bus, and next to the tour bus was a little church. I could hear my song being played in the church, and the doors were closed. I said, ‘Oh my gosh! Someone’s getting married to my song. This is so exciting.’”

Urban couldn’t contain his enthusiasm, and invited himself to join their small, intimate ceremony.

“So, I get my guitar off the bus, bring one of my guitar players with me for harmony, and I knock on the door very excited,” Urban continues, thinking the people would be “amazed” that he was there in-person. “This guy answers the door, and he goes, ‘Can I help you?’ I’m like, ‘Hi.’ He goes, ‘Can I help you?’ I went, ‘Oh, I’m, my name’s Keith Urban.’ He goes, ‘Yeah?’ I’m like, ‘That’s me singing that song. Can I come in and sing it?’”

Fortunately, the guy who answered the door realized Urban really was the singer, and invited him in, although it wasn’t quite the wedding Urban envisioned.

“I walk in. It’s this tiny little church,” the “Straight Line” singer remembers. “There must’ve been 10 people in there tops, bride and groom up there, little country wedding. Amazing! And I got my guitar and sang that song to them, and the bride and groom, they’re just standing looking at me dumbfounded, like ‘That’s the guy!’”

When “Your Everything” came out, Urban had no idea his future included a successful marriage with a movie star. Urban met his wife, Nicole Kidman in 2005, tying the knot one year later. Notoriously private about their personal life, Urban did give fans a glimpse of their wedding ceremony, during his former Las Vegas residency in 2023.

“I wanted to do it in a very organic way and find the right song,” Urban tells People, explaining why he used the song “Without You” to show wedding footage. “It was really more about choosing to do that song, ‘Without You,’ and how that felt like the right time for that.”

“I don’t know if that’s her favorite song, but it was the right one for the footage,” he adds
